On 15–16 November 2025, a total of 12 youths with disabilities and affected by leprosy (9 male and 3 female) participated in “The Youth Conference 2025” held at Sylhet Rose View Hotel in Sylhet. The conference was organized by Centre for Disability in Development (CDD).
The participating youths were engaged under two projects: “The Meaningful Participation and Inclusion of Children and Youths with Disabilities in all Domains of Community Based Rehabilitation (MaPInCBR)” and “Meaningful Youth Participation for Children and Youths with Disabilities and Affected by Leprosy (MYP)”. These initiatives aim to strengthen inclusion, active participation, and leadership of children and youths with disabilities and those affected by leprosy within their communities.
The main objectives of the conference were to promote inclusion, leadership, and empowerment among youths with disabilities and those affected by leprosy. The two-day event featured interactive sessions, including talk shows and debates, where participants openly shared their personal experiences, challenges, and identified gaps in community development processes.
During the sessions, the youths highlighted barriers related to accessibility, social stigma, limited opportunities, and the need for stronger representation in decision-making platforms. The conference also addressed broader challenges faced by children, youths, and women with disabilities and those affected by leprosy, emphasizing the importance of inclusive policies and collaborative action.
The Youth Conference 2025 provided a dynamic platform for networking, learning, and mutual support among participants from different regions. It strengthened their confidence and advocacy skills, encouraging them to take active roles in promoting inclusive development within their respective communities.
